Meditation is music

Posted by Barbara Ives on Thursday, May 31, 2012, In : Meditation

I am one of those folk that often has their head stuck in a book (infact I think I have a book fetish when it comes to books on 'yoga'. I love 'Osho's' work and whilst reading one of his books,  I came across this little verse on meditation and wanted to share.

"Meditation is the ultimate music. It is music which is not created by any instrument, it is the music that arises in your silence. It is the sound of silence. It is the harmony that is heard when all noise has disappeared. When the mi...

Women all over the world express strength and Wisdom

Posted by Barbara Ives on Sunday, May 27, 2012, In : Beautiful women all over the world

I hope like me you have been enjoing this beautiful warm and for most very welcome weather. Having spent the weekend away I popped into a supermarket on the way home from my trip to purchase a few necessities (as one does) and I was surprised at just how busy the supermarket was (I thought with this splendid weather it would have been quiet). The supermarket was busy with, dare I say it women shopping and quite obviously shopping for food for the B-B-Q weather (so that I do not sound sexist, ...

Yoga as a Therapy

Posted by Barbara Ives on Sunday, May 20, 2012, In : Yoga as Therapy
I am often asked what the difference is between 'yoga therapy' and 'yoga'. I will explain briefly.

I spend a great deal of my time as a yoga and meditation teacher working with clients on a one-to-one basis. I work with clients with all kinds of conditions, these range from cancer, back and neck pain, joint pain, chronic fatigue, mental health issues, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, musculoskeletal problems, physcial issues, migraine, insomnia, sports injuries, runners with tight hamstring...

The benefits of mindfulness meditation

Posted by Barbara Ives on Saturday, May 19, 2012, In : Meditation
I have a regular meditation practice and I cannot stress the benefits of a regular (mindfulness) meditation practice. There is scientific evidence that shows how meditation affects our brain, our mood our thinking and thought patterns (all in a positive way). Meditation is often a forgotten practice even by those practicing yoga regularly.

There seems to be this misconception that meditation has to be carried out sitting alone in a quiet room, this is fine and often a great way to begin a med...

Yoga asanas (postures) and A&P

Posted by Barbara Ives on Friday, May 18, 2012, In : Anatomy & Physiology
I am in awe of the human body and amazed at just how tough our bodies are, I am also eternally grateful and give thanks daily to my body (and mind) for supporting me through my yoga practice and my daily 'chores'. I am particularly interested in A&P (Anatomy and Physiology), I also have a book fetish (ssshhhh) and I spend hours reading, researching and studying the human body. I believe that as a yoga teacher it is very important to understand A&P and what muscles we use when performing speci...

Yoga and Athletes

Posted by Barbara Ives on Thursday, May 17, 2012, In : Yoga for Sports enthusiasts
There are so many wonderful, informative, interesting and thought provoking articles out there (out there being the world wide web) what would we do without the web? A particular article caught my eye and I wanted to share with you. http://www.mindbodygreen.com/0-4806/Why-Every-Athlete-Should-Do-Yoga.html

I teach yoga to a number of sports enthusiasts including runners and I am often struck by how much tension and lack of flexibility there is within their bodies/muscles. However once they begi...
