Dreams Can Come True - my new Yoga studio

Posted by Barbara Ives on Saturday, November 19, 2016 In : Dreams can come true.... Yoga Studio Retreat
In the words of Gabrielle, "Dreams can come true...." finally after I can't tell you how many years I have finally achieved a dream come true. I will be opening my very own Yoga Studio Retreat in January 2017.  I have been reflecting, (yes I spend a great deal of time reflecting :) ).  Sometimes we can feel as though our 'dreams' are a zillion miles away and may never come to fruition. I truly believe we have to manifest our dreams, if you want something enough you will and can make it happen...

Turning my world upside down

Posted by Barbara Ives on Monday, February 2, 2015 In : Aerial and acro yoga
Having recently attended a 5 day intensive in London on acrobatic yoga and Thai massage I was reminded of how it feels stepping outside of my comfort zone. The course was very challenging physically and at times it did feel a little like 'bootcamp' yoga. That said, I really enjoyed the challenge it gave me although at times I did feel myself getting frustrated when my body didn't do what I wanted it to do. I reminded myself of the 8 limbs of yoga and one of the 'Yamas' Ahimsa – Compassion f...

Why you should avoid Roll-up or Roll-down

Posted by Barbara Ives on Sunday, April 13, 2014 In : Yoga and Protectign your Spine
Having practiced pilates for many years I was always instructed to 'roll-down' and 'roll-up' and I thought for many years this was safe. However when I did my yoga teacher training with the British Wheel of Yoga - the group I studied with spent a great deal of time over the three years training on anatomy, physiology and kinesiology and I can't tell you how many times we had the discussion and debate about the roll-up/roll-down. So to cut a very long story short - we were advised not to teach...

The Three Big C's - Christmas, Cancer & Change

Posted by Barbara Ives on Friday, April 5, 2013 In : Cancer and Yoga

Apologies, it has been a while since my last post. To summarise some weeks leading up to Christmas a close family member was diagnosed with Cancer. This news came as a complete shock to us and it was some weeks before we were given the full diagnosis. This news completely rocked our world and seemed to preoccupy our thoughts and emotions constantly for some weeks, fear gripping at our hearts - we did our best to think positively. At the same time I heard that a friend who had been struggling ...

Time

Posted by Barbara Ives on Friday, November 30, 2012 In : Time
Beautiful wise words and how true. These days it feels as though as a society we are truly living in a 'rat race' with the majority of people never having 'time' to reflect, to appreciate, to do the things they enjoy and time to just 'be'.

"An unhurried mind brings the capacity to make wise choices every day – choices of how we use our time, of where we place our resources and our love. I am not just talking about avoiding the rat race, but about a life full of an artistic beauty – a life ...

Yoga and its History

November 25, 2012

Well November has been an exceptionally busy month and I am feeling 'yogaed out' (if that is possible) but then again - you can never have too much of yoga :0. More information on these courses will be published shortly.
